Yukon Cedar Strip Racing Sea Kayak - PDF

The Yukon was initially designed for a 400+ mile race on the Yukon River, where top speed is less critical than efficiency and comfort over long distances. This design is optimized for efficient cruising rather than pure speed.

Compared to a longer, narrower boat, the Yukon's shorter length reduces wetted surface area, the main source of drag at cruising speeds. Extensive analysis has gone into the low-drag hull shape.

Efficient paddling is crucial for long-distance comfort and endurance. The sloped foredeck allows a close, relaxed paddle catch, enabling a longer lateral stroke for greater power. The rounded bottom with rocker provides stability in rough water while allowing easy turning.

There is ample volume for gear, though excessive weight will hinder performance. The high foredeck sheds waves, and the design allows comfortable leg drive with feet together and knees up. The low rear deck facilitates easy layback rolls if needed.

• Eight 24" x 36" [61cm x 91cm] Drawing Pages including: An overall drawing, a full size "stacked" form drawing showing all the forms and then all the forms drawn individually and at full size. Also included are templates for the cockpit and coaming recess parts.
• Kayak Building Notes: These notes provide supplemental information such as bill of materials for each design.
