A long, sleek hull that is fast and responsive. Taking inspiration from the Inuit kayaks of Greenland, the Night Heron has an elegant overhanging bow and stern that slices through the water and rises easily over waves and chop.

At 20" wide this is a narrow boat, however it is not scary to paddle. Even novice paddlers quickly get comfortable. The boat tracks well with good balance and is quite fast. It is very easy to roll and perform various braces.

INCLUDED IN THE PLANS:

  • Four 24" x 36" [61cm x 91cm] Drawing Pages plus 2 Full Length Panel Patterns including: An overall drawing, patterns for the bow hatch, twist-lock stern hatches and cockpit, and forms. The long panels assume you will pre-scarf long pieces of plywood and then trace the full size patterns on to those long blanks. The build manual is available separately below.

Included in the PDF Manual:

  • Stitch and Glue Instructions: This instruction manual written by Nick Schade guides you step by step through this build process.

Included in the CNC/DXF File:

  • Tool Paths to Cut 4mm Plywood Parts: Cut your own Kit. Set up with puzzle joints to fit on 4 sheets of standard sized 4mm Okoume plywood. A PDF drawing of the Bulkheads is included. (Special bonus: a version suitable for rubber "VCP" style hatches is included) No Instructions Included

NOTE: These plans include a license to build one kayak. If you would like to build more than one, please contact Nick for details.

Printing Full Sized Boat Plans

Note: Our PDF boat plans include full-sized drawings of the parts and forms needed to build the boat, as such they are best printed on a large format printer.

If you do not have access to a large format printer, visit Guillemot-Kayaks.com where we sell full-size hard copy of all these plans printed and ready to use. You may also try printing these by "tiling" using your own printer and taping together the large pages.
