This kayak has been optimized for race-level efficiency while fitting the "Sea Kayak Touring Class" rules - 20ft max length, 18" minimum waterline beam. The 19'11" waterline and 18" beam (expanding to 20" with a 200lb paddler) are computer-optimized for minimal wetted surface and wave drag.

The flared 20" beam conforms to class rules while also providing secondary stability and downwind surfing performance. The high foredeck gives a clean, dry ride in chop, and the cut-away deck allows efficient close-to-hull paddle strokes. The long cockpit allows full leg extension and torso rotation.

This strip-built design uses 1/8" deck and 3/16" hull strips, with a lightweight racing layup resulting in a 26lb bare boat or 31lb fully equipped weight. It performs best with a rudder due to its straight tracking and wind resistance, but is a stiff, fast-turning boat not ideal for tight turns. The narrow waterline makes it less stable, though seat height can be adjusted.

Printing Full Sized Boat Plans

Note: Our boat plans include full-sized drawings of the parts and forms needed to build the boat, as such they are best printed on a large format printer.

If you do not have access to a large format printer, visit Guillemot-Kayaks.com where we sell full-size hard copy of all these plans printed and ready to use. You may also try printing these by "tiling" using your own printer and taping together the large pages.
