In 1924, George Crouch introduced a groundbreaking speedboat, known as the Baby Bootlegger. This vessel was groundbreaking for its time, incorporating a smooth "rolled sheer" design where the deck seamlessly transitions into the sides, and an elongated, streamlined stern. It served as a prototype for the popular mahogany runabouts of the 1920s.

This innovative design inspired the author, who was captivated by its graceful and efficient shape. The popularity of canoeing was pioneered by J. Henry Rushton in the 1880s. His canoe designs deviated from the norm, featuring a "double paddle" style where the paddler sat at the bottom of the boat. These Rushton-style canoes often had lengthy decks and a designated cockpit for the paddler.

With the Baby Bootlegger as a reference, Nick combined the elegance of its look with the Rushton-style double paddle canoe to create the μBootlegger (micro Bootlegger) - a spacious DIY Tandem kayak plan.

Printing Full Sized Boat Plans

Note: Our boat plans include full-sized drawings of the parts and forms needed to build the boat, as such they are best printed on a large format printer.

If you do not have access to a large format printer, visit Guillemot-Kayaks.com where we sell full-size hard copy of all these plans printed and ready to use. You may also try printing these by "tiling" using your own printer and taping together the large pages.
